The Pareidolia Tumblers are thrown terra-cotta with hand-drawn pareidolia drawings inspired by ancient cave paintings and children's sidewalk chalk drawings. My pareidolia drawings are similar to seeing faces, animals, and other imagery in clouds while gazing at the sky. The fantastic creatures on these tumblers start with randomly drawn lines that I then manipulate and use to pull out and create imagery. I use underglaze chalk that is reminiscent of cave paintings and/or sidewalk chalk drawings.
The Petroglyph Tumblers are hand-thrown with carved and painted drawings. The incised imagery on these drinking vessels is similar to the drawing style I use to create sculptures. I thought it would be interesting to directly carve my drawings on utilitarian vessels instead of only using them for creating sculptures. I use contemporary multi-colored and food-safe underglazes and glaze.
